I'm going to make this cute little bench and you know what, if you're new, to woodworking it's the perfect little bench. But if you're experienced, you know what it's still just as much fun and if you stick around I'll, show you how well I'm going to go ahead and make my first cut now and that cut is going to be the top of the bench. And I've got a nice clear piece here with just a partial knot and that's good and I'm using pine. It's easy to paint it's nice and light, and in this case, it's laminated. So it's a little bit stronger.
So it should work out good. I've already got the table saw set. So let's get sawing here. Now the legs want to be 17 inches long. So I'm just going to go ahead and cut those and then I'm going to cut the top at 28 inches. I'm going to cut the skirting the same length as the top of the bench. I want to cut a bevel on the ends of each of the skirts here, but and keep it simple what I did. I just put a piece of tape on there and that way I'll get them exactly the same on both sides. So we'll just line up the two of them make that cut there. It's always easier to show that it is to try to explain now.
I'm just gonna cut these off on the band saw. Okay, here's a quick mock-up of what that bench is going to look like what I need to do. None of this is attached anywhere. What I need to do, first of all, is to measure how far I want these legs to stand out and they look like about three and a half or four inches about three and a half inches looks like it's good. So what I'm going to do? I'm going to mark draw a line across three and a half inches and I'm going to put a very tiny a couple of little tiny nails in there. And the purpose of those nails is so that it doesn't get twisted when I'm doing the assembly.
Because I'm going to glue this all together and I'm going to pin it with my 23 gauge Pinner-and you saw me making these that's, what's going to hold parts of this together so inside here, where you won't see that will be getting glued up like that And that will make it just rocks all it'll, be so so strong with these pieces in here put one in here and, of course, all the sides. So so I've taken a moment now to mark where I want to put glue and where all the pieces are going to go. I'm not going to have a lot of time here, because this whole thing is going to get glued up very quickly.
So I'm just going to go ahead and just do all this assembly well now that the bench is dry and hard. I just want to check it to make sure that it's nice and flat and there's a very tiny wobble in these two corners, and that means these two corners are a little bit high and all we do is draw a little bit of sandpaper underneath and just try one pull and then test it and then try another one, because it doesn't take very much a little bit more there. It is that's gone
